The Fire this Time Collection - 2020

"This group of nine recent paintings reflects my response to the summer 2020 fires here in the Santa Cruz mountains.

The paintings are mixed media using acrylic paint and some debris collected from the forest floor. The paintings are for sale with proceeds going to the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County in support of fire victims."

Jim Potterton

"Part of the painting process for me is a way of drawing closer to nature, getting really in, and seeing things in ways that are full of excitement and a lot of discovery and joy.

Art is about getting to know yourself and getting to know the environment in a very very intimate way by participating with the materials, the paint, the water, the canvases’, the paper boards. Those are elements of the natural world and being able to shape those into something that speaks to other people… is magical."
