"I think a lot of painting for me is physical, it is very energetic. I really enjoy working with large brushes and sometimes I use my hands. One of my favorite tools is the back of a brush or a palette knife. I use things in a way that gets my hands dirty and gets me into the painting and gets me moving. The actual physical engagement of my energy with the energy of nature - you know, the crashing ocean, the way in which rocks are craggy and formed, all of that is full of a certain kind of energy that I enjoy joining in and in the actual process of making the painting." - JP
